This is Zu cristatus otherwise known as a scalloped ribbon fish - they are found all around the world within tropical latitudes. . It seems they are not a very deep dwelling fish , they have been caught at depths down to 750m. That does put it within the mesopelagic zone . This animals body must have been about 8cm long but the long ribbon like fins extended for 50cn or more . We haven’t seen many of these fish in the time we’ve been running blackwater dives here on Cozumel. It’s incredibly exci
