1. Not training close enough to failure. Failure meaning not being able to do another rep with good form at the end of your set. If you finish a set and could do 5 more reps, you’re not going to send a strong enough signal to your muscles to grow. If you want to grow muscle, I recommend picking a weight where you could only do 1–3 more reps with good form when you finish your set. The newer you are to lifting, the farther away from failure you can train and still get good results (2–3 more reps)
