During the Klondike Gold Rush from 1896 to 1899 gold was discovered on Bonanza Creek in Canada's Yukon Territory, drawing tens of thousands of prospectors seeking fortune. The journey was perilous and every person had to bring a year's worth of food and supplies, boosting demand in remote Dawson City. Merchants made fortunes by selling essential provisions at high prices. One prospector named Arthur Dietz was tricked into buying what he thought were evaporated eggs but turned out to be 100 pound
