Our Eastern Box Turtles have came out of brumation and they are hungry! So we are making sure that they have lots of good things to eat in their outdoor habitat. This morning they all got some yummy nightcrawlers 🪱 These turtles are omnivorous and will eat almost anything, including berries, insects, roots, flowers, eggs, and amphibians. After 34 years of rescuing turtles I thought I had seen every type of injury, but this was a new one. This turtle was accidentally sawed with a chainsaw last week. The home owner had cut a tree down and was sawing it up when he discovered this turtle under it. The turtle is recovering very well from his injuries to his shell and left lung. The tree falling on him also had cracked the right of his shell. He's a strong turtle! #boxturtle #wildliferescue #wildlifevetcare | Wildlife Vet Care
