Typical summer temperatures settle in over the region to close out the week, but more weekend storms could turn temperatures a little cooler once again.
Thursday offers more heat and humidity, and some threat for severe weather. A slight risk of severe storms covers much of the area along and north of U.S. Highway 30. Like tonight, the main threat is damaging wind and large hail. The isolated tornado risk is again a bit secondary, but not fully ruled out.
As we are halfway through July, the typical quiet streak remains across much of the deep Atlantic and the East Coast. We had Tropical Storm Arthur back in mid-June, which brought a ton of rain to the southern Gulf Coast states.
Some passing showers today, but overall a sunny and pleasant start to the week. Our Monday features a mostly sunny to partly cloudy day, however there is a solid chance of passing showers and an isolated thunderstorm in our more southern regions.
The main weather story continues to be the thick Canadian wildfire smoke blanketing the area. This smoke will remain an issue overnight and through the duration of Thursday. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is forecast to reach into the UNHEALTHY category.
The National Hurricane Center is watching an area offshore for tropical development early next week.
Our breezy trade winds are taking a little summer break, easing to moderate levels today and Wednesday before cranking back up Thursday and carrying us into the weekend.
